✚Helpful Hints - #2

HEALTH and WELLNESS
DON'T LET HIM MIX VIAGRA WITH...
Grapefruit juice, St. John`s wort, or some blood pressure and anti-angina meds.  All of these drugs can interact negatively with Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs, including Cialis or Levitra, reports the consumer group Public Citizen.

STOP THE CLOCK BY MAKING LOVE!
A landmark Scottish study found that people who made love four times weekly look 12 years younger than they actually are!  The researchers theorize that physical intimacy boosts the production of anti-aging feel-good hormones - such as endorphins and oxytocin - while also increasing the flow of rejuvenating nutrients in the bloodstream to the collagen fibers, muscle and other supporting tissues responsible for keeping skin youthful and firm.

BEAUTY and FASHION
GET SMOOTH SKIN FOR LESS!
At $10 or more for just four razorblade refills, the cost of having smooth skin can quickly add up.  The money saving cure:  Simply dry your blade (a quick burst from the hair-dryer will do!) after each use and store it outside the shower.  Rusting is the major cause of razor dullness, so this stratergy will make it last up to 10 times longer - and save you more than $50 a year!

PREVENT BUTTONS FROM FALLING OFF!
If you launder sweaters or blouses with oversized buttons, dab a tiny bit of clear nail polish on the threads of the buttons to keep them from falling off in the wash.

HOME and AUTO
WATER STAINS ON WOOD?
Guests forgot to use coasters?  Dab non-gel toothpaste onto a cloth, and rub.  Wipe area with a damp cloth, then dry for a ring-free finish!

LESS STRAIN ON THE ENGINE.
Put less strain on your engine and automatic transmission by shifting to neutral at red lights. Otherwise, the engine is still working to push the car even while it’s stopped.

SHOP VERTICALLY
The next time you're pushing your cart down the grocery-store aisles, look up and down.  Way up and down.  The top and bottom shelves are where you'll find some of the best deals in the store on canned items and other packaged foods.   Yes, there's a reason that the jars of pricey tomato-spinach-feta-olive-caper pasta sauce are at eye level while similar, cheaper cans of red sauce line the shelves below.  Manufacturers pay a premium for eye-level placement, and that cost gets passed on to shoppers like you.

FOOD and DRINK
MAKE WHIPPED CREAM LAST ALL DAY
To ensure the topping stays fluffy until dessert, reach into your pantry for marshmallow cream.  Whipping 2 tbsps. of this childhood favorite into every cup of fluffy cream prevents the whipped cream from collapsing for a full day.  (Thank the marshmallow's egg whites, which stabilize the mixture.)  Plus, it adds the right amount of sweetness.

HOMEMADE GRENADINE
Grenadine is a classic pomegranate-based sweetener found in many drinks, and often an integral flavor agent in popular cocktails.  Today's grenadine is rife with high-fructose corn syrup and food coloring, a far cry from the preservative-free original.
For a homemade version: Add one cup of POM pomegranate juice and one cup of granulated sugar into a jar. Shake vigorously until the sugar is dissolved. Add another ounce of sugar and once again shake with gusto. The end result is a bright, fresh grenadine readily able to sweeten up your drink without the artificial cloying flavor of commercial grenadines. And depending on your personal tastes, you can add more or less sugar to achieve your desired sweetness.

MENTAL HEALTH
Moody cues

Can Twitter, the most narcissistic of web apps, tell us something about society as a whole?
Two applied mathematicians from the Universtiy of Vermont think so.  They've built a program that mines through nearly 1,000 tweets a minute, identifying commonly used words to gauge the general mood of society.
So far, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve 2008 are the happiest days on record.  The saddest?  June 25, 2009, the day Michael Jackson died.
